Why are large CAD assemblies failing to publish?

Why are large CAD assemblies failing to publish?

Large CAD assemblies are failing to publish but aren't consistent.

The assemblies get sent for publishing automatically on Check In but either the CadAgent Times Out after 600secs even though I have it set in the Worker Agent Administrator for a 3600s timeout!

Or, the Helper times out waiting for progress from the Worker!

I subsequently logged in as site admin, started the CadWorker in Worker Agent Administrator and republished the assembly and all was published successfully.

Also, in the wvs.properties file, the value for 'publish.cadtimeout.assembly' equals 3600 which should be enough as the assemblies are retrying loads quicker than that.

I have also tried to publish by doing a custom check-in from ProE but not working but my preference is for publishing on check-in.

Any pointers or advice greatly appreciated.

Hello ,

Pls check in "auth.properties " file for the availability of visuser and his password.Try to login windchill with this UN / PW and do a publishing ,check in wvs.properties that location of auth.properties is same as the location it is.

The "auth.properties " file has the login/PW for site admin.

In "wvs.properties" is the following line,

publish.cadconvert.PROE=com.ptc.wvs.server.publish.CadConvertPROE,useworkerdownload\=$(wt.home)$(wvs.dir.sep)auth.properties

Is this what you mean?

I can login to PDMLink as site admin and publish but I don't no why others can publish successfully but large assemblies timeout.

Helo ,

Check the content in auth.properties in the file location "$(wt.home)$(wvs.dir.sep)auth.properties" ,

Ideally it should be something like this ,

auth=visuser:PSSWRD

where visuser is a SiteAdmin who is responsible for Publishing.

Also PSSWRD is a p/w for the visuser.

When ever publishing is trigered by any user , it hapens via visuser. So pls check if this is available.

If in case it is empty , try to enter value and initiate publishing.

Thanks for the reply.

The auth.properties file does contain the correct site admin login & password.

I am continuing to investigate looking at the cad agent proe trail files etc.

Regards.

Hi,

We too had faced similar issue with publishing large assemblies and did troubleshooted a lot alongwith PTC tech support on this issue. As you had mentioned, the reason for failure was the Helper (short) timeout. We had to set that value to 3600 (the recipe file would read adapter/timeoutShortHelper=3600).

Try this setting and test.

What level of applications (Windchill, ProductView Adapters, ProE) are you running?

Thanks,

Prabhakaran V

Hi Prabhakaran,

It's interesting that you set the short timeout to 3600. My workers are configured for a long timeout of 3600 and a short timeout of 1300. The vast majority of our assemblies and drawings are publishing fine, but we do get the occasional failure. I'll try setting the short timeout to be the same as the long timeout and see how that affects reliability.

Hi Brian,

It is true that with Short Timeout being 900s and Long Timeout being 3600s, most of the jobs would get successfully published. But really larger assemblies (there would be few of them of cource, still they should get addressed too), were getting failed and after good troubleshooting with PTC, we were advised to set Short Timeout of 3600s and Long Timeout of 20000s. This would try to keep the Thumbnail Generation sessions in CADWorker alive for longer time. Setting these higher values will anyway not affect publishing of other smaller jobs.

We had infact had few other settings done too to cater for our specific scenarios. You may find different values that would suit your environment.

Thanks,

Prabhakaran V.
