Rendering?

Rendering?

I just recently started looking into a rendering software for models & assemblies. I downloaded Keyshot & I am very impressed with what it can do & how easy it is to use. This is my only experience with a software like this. I am looking for the pros & cons for Keyshot & or any other rendering packages? I want to make nice models & assembly videos. I am looking for some supporting information from the rendering experts to help me make the right decision when choosing a rendering package. Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

Mike, if you don't receive a response right away, I also suggest trying this group out too, Rendering. They are also running a poll on render software.

I haven't tried it out and I don't render, but I'll promote this one because its free, open-source software, which I love. It appears to be on par with Maya.

See "Rendering" and "Raytrace Rendering" on the features list, http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/features/.

Cheers,

Kevin

Thanks guys I appreciate the help.

Lightwave FTW! .By far it has the best(intuitive) interface i have seen and all those movie FX people that used it cant be wrong . I dont think Blender is even close to Maya. Blender has high usage in game 3D graphics. Considering you are going for simple animations(nothing fancy like particles, morphing or effects) Blender will do fine and its opensource. The moment you outgrow your software capabilities switch to other one.

Hi Mike, this is Josh from Luxion. My background is engineering and I have used several rendering packages in the past (I also run the solidsmack website.)

You can see the main difference here: http://www.keyshot.com/how-its-different/

There's a lot that set's it apart: It's fast, it's easy, it's CPU-driven so no special equipment/gpu is needed.. among so much else. I an manufacturing/sales environment I was able to keep up with the demand for visuals. No that there's animation and the environment editor, I wish I had those features back then too.

I suppose you are using the plugin for ProE/Creo? If you have any other questions about specific functionality or what you're rendering, just let me know!

Thanks I have no Plugin I am using WF 5.0. My boss showed me some nice rendered pictures & asked what it would take to make photos like that. I remembered Keyshot from the PTC event last year. I have no rendering experience except what I tried to get from PROE a long time ago. I am testing the trial version of Keyshot but having a detail problem with one of my models but Luxion is looking into it. Lightwave I have not heard of. I would like to run two before deciding on one.

Looks like my previous post got a little garbled. Anyway, for WF 5.0, you can download the plugin here: http://www.keyshot.com/downloads/plugins/

It will allow you to import the files directly maintaining all the structure and colors.
