Mass properties are not calculated

Mass properties are not calculated

Just starting on Creo 2.0, and when I save a part (or assembly) I get the following conflict window pop up:

"Mass properties are not calculated"

Now.... I know what it means The trouble is I have not created a mass properties feature or a saved analysis and I currently have no need or desire to calculate the mass properties of my part. I have to check this box off every time I save a file.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

It is the mass properties config option:

mass_property_calculate automatic

I have commented it out in my config.pro for the time being. I'm not sure why it now requires a check off every time you save, whereas in earlier releases it didn't. Must be an "improvement".

Something is calling for one of the mass property values, maybe a format is trying to report the weight of the object or even the material callout. Check the relations for the part and the individual features. Something want data. This is not normal behavior for bare bones setups.

There is no parameter calling for any mass property value. I have just created a new part using our standard start part and I get this message even when there is no geometry in the part, just datums.

When I do the same thing, using the exact same start part, in WF5.0 I do not get this message. I only get it in Creo 2.0. Apart from the release of Pro/Creo there is no difference between the two parts, they are both created from the same (WF 5.0) start part.

Check to see if the following config option is enabled

mass_property_calculate

Yes, it's set to automatic.

This is the same setting as my WF5.0 setup, which is in a different startup folder with different config.pro files.

Do you have the same problem if you start with an "empty" part?

Yes. I just created a part completely empty, with no template, no features. Same window popped when I tried to save it.

Hi,

Is this a MODELCHECK thing?

Nope. We have Model Check installed, but I have never used it.

Are you using windchill? What if you open an empty part with the default config.pro?

I just went from Creo 2.0 M030 to M040 and I do not see this message. Something is initiating the need for the requirements. It is likely a new requirement from the WF5 version.

Obviously it is worth opening a case with Tech Support. We would all like to know what could drive this error.

Nope. We don't have Windchill.

I will try opening Creo2.0 without my shortcut, IOW straight from the /bin folder, then create a new part and try it. That way it won't load my config.pro.

If there is no conflict window I will then have to see which of my config.pro options is the cause, or log a case.

Thanks for your response.

Glad you got it resolved. Thanks for letting us know.

I am also having this problem. After playing with the config settings I can make the error stop showing at the expense of having accurate weight show up in my drawings. To clarify, the setting which stops the "mass properties not calculated" error stops drawing weights from updating at all.

How can I fix the system so that it works appropriately?

Thanks,

Landon

I suspect there is an error in the part's mass property parameters and therefore cannot complete the calculation. If you want it to work properly, all the data has to be entered.

If you believe it is correctly entered, you might create a customer service case and have them take a look.

Has there been a significant change in the Mass Prop datasets from WF5 to CREO 2? This error is new and started when we transitioned to CREO 2. It happens with every part, every assembly, and every drawing. Generating a new mass-properties report will stop it until some change is made to the part, like adding a note. Then you cannot save without this error popping up. It has become extremely frustrating.

Thanks,

Landon

Please start a CS case. It sounds like the Automatic regen of the mass properties is not working as expected. It would be good to share an understanding of how this feature functions.

Thread bump time...

If you don't (want to, or can't) have the option set to Automatic, how do you force an update?

In Wildfire it was something convoluted like Edit -> Setup -> Mass Props -> Generate Report (which we created a mapkey for as it was so awkward), but where's that gone in Creo 2?

Thanks!

Jonathan - You may have figured this out by now, but for anyone else, the answer is:

File > Prepare > Model Properties, then click the "change" link in the mass properties section. You can then calculate or generate report, etc.

Thanks - that's useful to know!
