Modular gear in Mechanism

Hi all,

I would suggest a new type of gear within Mechanism: a mechanism where you can insert the law of motion of another axis, always into refer to the rotation/translation of another axis.

Now the normal constraint gear works with a linear function between input and output:

output(tau) = input * tau

tau = transmission ratio = r1/r2

but if we could have the possibility of insert a different function to correlate the two axis?

In this manner we can command a motion chain with only one servo motor as you do in the realty.

Hello Giulio,

maybe you should rather file a Product Idea for your idea?

This will also allow others to contribute with ideas and feedback, but also to vote on the idea.

Regards,

Gunter

With my account I can't suggest new ideas...

Gunter, can you do something?

I think it would be a very simple implementation...

Hello Giulio,

We have a policy to stick to: PTC employees are not supposed to create Product Ideas - this is a mechanism that should be exclusively for customers.

We are only allowed to comment, vote (like a regular user with our personal account, so it is not on behalf of PTC) and refer to Product Ideas, but not initiate them.

About the efforts: Implementing a new feature type is always a bigger implementation, as it requires UI design and extensive testing for interaction with existing functionality/features (which can be quite diverse), stability against wrong inputs or modifications of the feature or indirectly it's parents, etc...

Thanks,

Gunter

Gunter you're right, but there are surely new features and new features.

Anyway I didn't mean that it would be very simple, but neither as difficult as other new features inserted into Creo 3.

So I hope some other "more powerful" user can catch my idea. (^.^)

Product Ideas are great - they limit participation to only those with active maintenance.
