I would like understand how to record a serial number vs a date in effectivity.

So how do you add an Effectivity Type other than a Date and the qualifier can be specific serial number.

We are using Windchill 12.1

Hi @BL_10161374

About the serial numbers you can read all library and you would still have a questions 😄

You specify a specific range of serial numbers that the design apply.

For example car has a serial number VIN and the CAD design apply for VIN from 1200001 to 1200501

so one design apply just for 500 cars.

PS: based on effectivity you can filter the WTPart structure.

Hi,

Technically you can go to the Type and Attribute management and add a new effectivity type (from a UI perspective), however you need to do customization to make your new effectivity type to work in a Config filter (as mentioned by @HelesicPetr ).

Before going into the technical aspects, what is your use case? What other effectivity type your business needs? (if you can give a hint without disclosing any propreitary information).

We may need to look in to configuration management perspective based on your need. Technical solution will come once that is settled.

Cheers

Hari

Hi @Hari_Vara

You don't have to create new subtype of effectivity,

You just need to set the WTPart to Serial number traceable.

Then you can set the effectivity type to Lot or Block

Do not forget to assign a context assembly that is traced

CS59673 - ow to change effectivity type of resulting object of change activity to "Serial Number" in Windchill PDMLink
