Hi. The second Windchill environment is hosted on a different network. Therefore, I'm not sure we could clone it. Was you thinking of taking a snapshot to produce the clone? Anyway, I am only trying to migrate a section of data from a certain product context into my new instance. The entirety of the target Windchill instance is not a clone of the source instance.

Migration

Version: Windchill 13.0

Use Case: I am in the process of setting up the config of a new Windchill environment. After doing this I will need to perform: 1. A migration of content from one Windchill instance into another of the same version. The content being brought across will be in the form of two different object types - a soft type change request and a soft type document. We would like to bring across a full history of each of these objects and include links within the objects to the document objects that they relate to. 2. A migration of content from a non-PTC application into a Windchill instance. We are likely to receive the export of the content in the form of a text file which I am hoping to use to feed a tool that will perform the import. I would like to be able to perform an import which will allow me to build an iteration history of Windchill objects based on the import. The objects I would like to create during the import will be soft type change tasks, change notices, parts, part instances, part configurations and documents. I would like to create relationships between these object types.

Description:

Is it possible to obtain my objectives without using the Windchill Bulk Migrator? I am aware that the REST API services can be used to achieve some of the tasks I require. I am also aware of other loading utilities such as info*engine scripts and LoadFromFile. Could these be used in combination to do everything that I require?

If you are setting up a new environment, why not just clone the original one? This way you do not need to bother with Migration at all? You could also clone the DB and vaults, then point your install to those cloned locations. I think these scenarios are also covered in rehosting. I would only consider what you are describing if I was merging two Windchill servers, both containing data, together.
