I am starting to think the long, evil arm of Apple is everywhere. As a gamer as well, Grand Theft Auto V was released with an app for iPhone, but took 3 months later for app to come to Android. By then, personalized license plates had all been taken, etc. etc., and there were rumors that Apple had paid Rockstar to delay Android release to bump iPhone sales... I'm starting to think our "beloved" PTC got a little kickback to screw those of us that didn't want to be Appelogs.

Infact, I ran the "ProductView for Mobile devices" TC sessions for a couple years to gather customer requirements And, Apple turned out to be the most popular platform amongst the members of the TC (who attended). Hence, we zeroed in on Apple for the first release. Also, I had personally received numerous requests from customers for supporting Creo View on iPhone and iPad.

With that said, Android was on my roadmap (before I left couple months ago). As to the current status for supporting Android, someone from PTC Product Management should comment.

I would call this a case of the "loud minority". That may have been primary feedback from a few loud people, or maybe just, like me, most android users hadn't considered using tablets or smartphones for use with a large organization's windchill implementation, like ours here at Panasonic Avionics Corp. With a recent system wide upgrade, I discovered I could log into Windchill using my Android device, and the only thing I could not do is view the 3D productview representations. I get access to all PDF specifications on the fly, along with the ability to download and view published PDF's of released engineering drawings and download and view STEP files using a 3rd party viewer... so when I looked around for a ProductView/Creo viewer for android and found it was only available for iPhone, I was understandably irritated. This is in light of the fact that according to The Verge (see http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/7/4598728/nearly-80-percent-of-smartphones-shipped-last-quarter-ran-android). Everyone in my organization would access via their smartphones, as I've already communicated the ability to many users... EXCEPT THEY ALL HAVE ANDROID.

According to the latest smartphone OS marketshare numbers from IDC, shipments of Android phones increased a whopping 73.5 percent to reach over 187 million units in the second quarter of 2013 — a figure that gives Android 79.3 percent of the smartphone marketplace.
