I am almost certain it is not possible to avoid some loss of features (pattern members) to get what you want. I concur with @KenFarley on what is required to satisfy your request. Without access to the model, it is hard to provide a definitive answer, but I don't recall ever being able to insert features into a group that has been patterned without deleting the pattern.

If you have the option to unpattern in the model, then you might be able to preserve the pattern members outside of a pattern but that would not seem to meet the requirements to add members to a group and include them in the existing pattern.

I have not needed to do such a thing in a while, but I think you might need to delete the pattern, add the features you wish to the group, then redo the pattern. At least that's the order of operations I remember. It might be different depending on what version of Creo you're running, but then again, I'm not sure.

Usually any problems I have had trying to move things up the model tree have to do with the parent features of the item being moved, or accidentally dropping it in the wrong place. Remember you can always undo if things go wrong.

Have you tried this operation by using Pro/PROGRAM?

The standard editor (notepad) is brutal for this kind of operation... very sensitive to structure and change.

If you want to try it in Nitro-PROGRAM - you can do so for FREE - no license required to check it out. If you hit a limit - you can just request a demo and get full functionality for a white.
