Cannot redefine placement, placement does not exist

I am using Creo Parametric Release 7.0 and Datecode7.0.11.0

In order to fix an assembly issue, I need to redefine the placement of the problem part. The placement, however, does not exist, and I cannot edit the definition of the part to add a placement. Replacement will not do, unless there is a way to replace it and keep all surface, edge, and other ID's identical.

Is this in an assembly generated from an ECAD import or using the IDF interface? There are processes that assemble components without constraints accessible through the UI. How was the component added to the assembly originally? When you check the reference viewer in assembly mode does it reveal parents to the component?

This should have been created by assembling it through the "Assemble" option, but may have been created through publish. Our company uses publish to handle external references.

The reference viewer yields not much information.

It is missing reference to an edge.

I cannot replace the reference to this edge, however.

The part was actually assembled using an external mirror merge. It is missing reference to an edge on the original. I am unsure on how to go about replacing the reference, though. The part references itself, and I cannot replace the reference because the part is failed.

Do you have any circular references in this assembly that may be relevant to the problem?

Try changing the dependency of the mirrored merge before doing anything that causes it to regenerate. See these articles.

I observed from your model tree that it looks like you are dealing with sheet metal parts. This may be relevant to your issue.

Thanks! I will read these thoroughly and will come back when I have applied the knowledge therein.

Hi @NC_LIEBHERR,

You mentioned that the part was assembled using an external mirror merge. Could you share the exact steps which were followed or can the file be shared with us?

Regards,

Amol Lungare

Unfortunately, I am unsure I can do either.

The file is very old, and I can only use the information we have in our processes at Liebherr and the assumption that the part was created with this process to decode it. Either the process could not be followed to the letter, mistakes were made, the program is malfunctioning, or there is file corruption, I am leaning towards corruption, or, more likely, there were extenuating circumstances which prevented the designer from followihg the process we have laid out.

I cannot share the design files with anyone that isn't under contract not to share the information.
