Please, tell me about functions definitions for Image Processing

I am reading the E-book of Image Processing of MC 14 and there's a lot of functions that I want to know how are its definitions, i.e. the how they were wrote or programed to work with images. I mean, functions like, equalize, imquant, binarize_auto etc. There's only a light explanation of how they work, it's ok, but I want to know its essentials. Is it possible?
