what controls the tabs and icon layout now. I am setting up a new tab that needs to get pushed to everyone.

About Saving User Interface Custom Settings
Creo Parametric automatically saves all user interface custom settings to
the creo_parametric_customization.ui file that is located in the <user <br="/>profile>\Application Data\PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire\.wf\.Settings\. The
customizations of the ribbon, Quick Access toolbar, and Graphics toolbar
that you make without opening the Creo Parametric Options dialog box are
also automatically saved.
If the value of the load_ui_customization_run_dir configuration option is
set to yes, then Creo Parametric saves the
creo_parametric_customization.ui file to the run directory.
You can save creo_parametric_customization.ui as
creo_parametric_admin_customization.ui and place it at creo loadpoint/text
to store the CAD administrator settings. The
creo_parametric_customization.ui file overrides the
creo_parametric_admin_customization.ui file.

So both ProENGINEER and Wildfire are still used in Creo. (o: Don't tell
PTC Marking. I would rather have R&D to work on removing the Menu Manager.

seems backwards. And there's no way to place the user settings anyplace
else but the local install folder or buried in the user folders?



So there no way to create company menus that give quick access to
company mapkeys and other common commands that may be buried in the
menus and let users customize the rest of the UI? We have a series of
drop down menus that make printing, controlling environment settings and
exporting much easier. Users are free to modify the rest of the
toolbars as they'd like. I haven't played a lot with Creo 1.0 yet,
maybe we won't need this anymore, but I doubt it.



What about a way to place user settings on the network so that user
customizations will be available at whatever workstation they log into?



Guess I have some homework to do. 😞

I read this as the user customizations will be added on top of your admin
customizations. When both have customized the same area, the users
customizations will used. So admin UI will be kept, unless the user
intends to change it. This is very much like how config.win behaves in
previous versions and also like config.pro without the config.sub
possibility.
The biggest difference, according to PTC, is that reading multiple .ui
files into a session do not create strange behaviors in the UI as
config.win did.

Last April I was at the Creo beta event and got to play with the software.
The issue of standard company mapkeys/menus was one of the issues I brought up with the developers.
To date nothing has change in this regard.

There's two basic problem as I see it.

1. You cannot add menus to the file menu.

2. You cannot add menus that are available regardless of the type of active file.

For example, let's say you have a mapkey that creates a new drawing based on a drawing template. Logically I would add a pick to create a new file, to the file menu and it would be available regardless of the mode you are currently in.

Plotting is another example. I don't create a plotting mapkey for every printer we have, however I do create plotting mapkeys for various types of output and where I want it. For example if you want to output a jpg, by default it will end up in your PDMLink workspace, I have a mapkey that puts it in the file the plot files directory. The print command is under the File menu, so that seems a logical place to place my mapkeys. Once again you want these to be available regardless of the mode you are in.

Creo 1.0 doesn't allow you to add anything to the file menu. Also everything you add to the ribbons is dependent on the mode you are currently in. So a mapkey/menu can't work for both a part and an assembly. Which means you can't have a single consistent pick that loads a model tree config file to change the columns displayed in the model tree.

I applaud PTC effort to reduce the need for users to create their own mapkeys/menus. However let's face it, no matter how easy you make some tasks, there are going to be things for which a user needs or wants a mapkey, and they would like a consistent location to access it in the menus or ribbions.

Seems I have a bit of homework to do as well.

I have been running Creo 1.0 since it was available but it's only being tested at this point. I have not played around with the custimization options that much, so I need to dive in and make sure it's clear as mud.
