9.1 WAN Performance

We are currently upgrading from Windchill 7.0 M020 to 9.1. Our network
guru is looking for another customer he can speak with who is using
Windchill 9.1 across a WAN. He is looking to determine if our network
requirements are defined appropriately, if our testing is adequate and
if there are any issues he needs to watch-out for based on your
experience. Basically, he wants to validate everything that PTC told
him.

Please let me know if any of you using 9.1 might be able to help.

Not upgrading, but currently using 9.0 for 4 facilities (3 US, 1 Europe).

Would be happy to discuss.

Just an FYI there are some differences between R9 and R9.1 in this area.

For instance:

* R9.1's client jars are much more complete than R9's and thus
applets make far fewer network roundtrips for resources missing
from jars and thus load faster.
* R9.1 has a new compression filter which is applied to almost all
responses from the servlet engine.

9.1 Remote file server capabilities are more advanced than that available in
9.0 and prior versions. You can read more from the "What's new" guide.

New Remote File Server capabilities allow for better performance with
generating viewables and better management of replication schedules and
files on the remote file servers.

Files can be distributed amongst replica servers without ever having to be
sent back to the master site. CAD workers can be setup at the replica sites,
and thus reducing the stress on network.

You might want o review these capabilities at a greater detail, and factor
these into your Infrastructure strategies.
