Does anyone know how to drag a Creo Parametric model from a Windchill page (typically a search result or a managed collection) embedded in the creo session and drop it directly in the active assembly in order to create in one step an assemble feature with

Indeed, our use case is to perform a Widnchill classified search for Catalog components (eg WTparts in Libraries classified with PartLinks), and once the WTpart is found, browse its related 3D model and bring into the active assembly in one operation by drag and drop instead of doing many steps such as

    • copy the cad model filename in Windchill page the go in Creo assembly, create assemble feature, and in the Open Model window paste the file name
    • open in Creo with right click and then assemble from objects in sessions (provided you can remember which object among the hundreds of objects in memory you have previously selected)
    • add to WS and then assemble from objects in WS (provided you can remember which object among the hundreds of objects in WS you have previously selected)

Unfortunately we have found no way for such a drag and drop in the standard PTC Windchill and Creo Parametric integration.

As of now, the most efficient seems to copy and paste the file name, but it is not welcome by users, I am looking for a more user friendly approach.

We have considered alternative solutions, such as adding to a managed collection, and adding the Windchill Managed collection to the Creo Favorites.

This works well, the managed collection is well displayed from the Favorites links, but there is no way to see the Creo objects of the managed collection in the Creo Open window (neither from Open nor from Assemble / Open) when doing Open from favorites.

Once again, the copy of the model file name and paste in Creo Open seems the most straight forward process, but not user friendly.

Any help is welcome, thanks in advance.

Hi

only see this in a very old mockup demo of the 1st "embeded" ProE workdpace ...

but never implemented in a Windchill release ...

You should create it as an Idea. and I will definetively vote for it !

regards
