Slow Performance on Windows 7 x64

Slow Performance on Windows 7 x64

Using Pro/Intralink 3.4 M062 on Windows 7 x64. Every action in the Pro/Intralink client is extremely slow. For example:

Login – 3:35

Show workspace contents– 3:42

Set check-in folder for a part– 3:02

All other users are on Windows XP (32-bit) and don't see these issues.

Have tried the following:

  • Update / roll backnetwork driver (s)

  • Try different network adapter (wired / wireless)

  • UpdatePro/I JRE from 1.4.2_15to 1.4.2_19

No clue where to go from here. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

TIA

Anyone have any other suggestions or things to investigate to try to resolve the slow Pro/Intralink client responsiveness?

I have already added these environment variables:

_JAVA_OPTIONS=-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dswing.useSystemFontSettings=false
__COMPAT_LAYER=VISTARTM

I also disabled IPv6.

None of these had any effect.

Someone suggested updating to Pro/Intralink 3.4 M070, but that is not an option for us.

I installed "Windows XP Mode" and set up the network adapter in "bridged mode". This waythe virtual machine gets its own ip address on the network (and has access to the ProI data server). I coped the ProIntralink loadpoint to the virtual machine. In XP Mode, the Pro/Intralink 3.4 M062 client response is quite snappy.

At this point, I'm out of ideas why Pro/Intralink 3.4 M062responds so poorly in Windows 7 x64.

  • disabled anti-virus / anti-malware andanything else I could think of that might hurt performanceand re-booted

  • Set the VISTARTM compatibility model for java

  • Included the java options -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dswing.useSystemFontSettings=false

  • Turned off the Areo interface (i.e. Windows 7 Basic theme)

  • Disabled IPv6

The XP Mode virtual machine is on the same submet as my workstation, so it doesn't appear to be a networking / infrastructure problem. Unless I'm missing something, this test result points to something else about my Windows 7 x64 setup negatively impacting the Pro/Intralink 3.4 M062 client.

Still looking for suggestions what else to try / where else to look.

I found this article: http://www.curuit.com/disable-tcp-auto-tuning-to-solve-slow-network-(vista-%10-windows-7-%10-windows-2008)-20070621145/

Per the article, as an administrator I typed the following from a command prompt and rebooted:
