Symbol inside another symbol

Hi

I'd like to visualize a symbol inside another symbol.

I use a symbol which is a note with several variable texts inside.

It's useful for me to customize the note in each drawing .

In the middle of this text it could be fine for me insert a standard symbol

e.g. inside the annotation symbol this is the text :

     ...

THE PART SHALL BE MARKED WITH RECYCLE SYMBOL &sym(recycle) .

     ...

But it doesn't work. ( I have the symbol in memory).

Any idea ?

Thanks Pier

Hi,

your symbol == note ... why you do not save this note into text file for later import in another drawing ?

Hi Martin

I don't understand what you mean.

Anyway let me share two pics in order to explain my need.

Thanks

Pier

Confirming we don't have symbol -> note -> symbol recursion.  One approach that might be suitable to you is including the geometry+text of the sub-symbols within the main symbol, under a grouping.  Then the user placing the symbol could select the group that includes the desired sub-symbol.  Another approach that might be useful, but seems less likely, is placing the second symbol as offset to the first.

Hi,

I hope the following procedure will explain my suggestion .

step 1. Create four text files

note_mark_tbd.txt

Bla bla bla TBD bla bla bla.

note_mark_recycle.txt

Bla bla bla &sym(recycle) bla bla bla.

note_mark_datewheel.txt

Bla bla bla &sym(datewheel) bla bla bla.

note_mark_revision.txt

Bla bla bla &sym(revision) bla bla bla.

step 2. Initialize drawing

Place recycle.sym, datewheel.sym, revision.sym into the drawing and immediatelly remove them.

step 3. Place  note "from file"

Activate Annotate tab, click Note button, select File option, click Make Note and select one of prepared files (for example note_mark_recycle.txt)

Thank you Martin.

Your solution could be a nice one in some cases.

Unfortunately for me it's not applicable because I normally have a very long note ( managed as symbol)

with several variable texts and attributes.

What I posted has been only a simple extract .

Anyway it's a good idea !

thanks again

Pier
